Working with Eckhart Tolle’s ‘The Power of Now’

A 6 week course exploring the painbody.

The so called ‘painbody’ features prominently in Eckhart Tolle’s work. It describes the (often self-created) suffering that hinders humans to fulfil their true potential of becoming fully self-aware. In these 6 weekly gatherings, we read, discuss, and meditate on Eckhart Tolle’s concept of the pain body. We aim to gain a deeper understanding of what the painbody means in general, and what it means for our own personal development and flourishing.

No previous experience necessary. Your facilitator aims to create a safe, inclusive environment where every participant is encouraged to contribute towards growth and clearer awareness of our shared experience. Andrea has been facilitating at the Sanctuary for the past 12 years as a yoga teacher and has undergone a ‘Teacher of Presence’ course with the Eckhart Tolle Foundation. Material will be provided, you can bring your own copy of ‘The Power of Now’ if you like but that is not required. Each week, the time will be divided into parts of thoroughly reading excerpts from ‘The Power of Now’, sharing and discussing our own understanding and experiences, and immersing ourselves into meditative awareness on the material we have unlocked together.

Week 1: An introductory meeting where we get to know each other a little bit and where we read and discuss the outline of Eckhart Tolle’s overall Project. We finish with a guided  meditative immersion.

Week 2:  How are we to understand the concept of ‘painbody’: does it differ from disease, illness, injury, disability or general suffering?

Week 3: The origins and purpose of the pain body, according to Eckhart Tolle, and in relation to our own lived experience.

Week 4: The inherited, or collective painbody and the personal painbody, How do we process our embodied experience of being a part of a society, culture, family, religion etc.

Week 5: The way out of suffering, as suggested by Eckhart Tolle: how to dissolve the painbody in ourselves and thus bring more lightness into our own immediate personal environment.

Week 6: Further solidifying our understanding of the painbody: how can we make use of our painbody to liberate ourselves from the primacy of the conceptual mind, and come to understand ourselves on a more complete, holistic levelPracticing Presence with Andrea Boudin
