Course Description: 

This 4 weekend, in depth training is spread out over a nine month period and aims to enable participants to establish an effective and regular daily mindfulness practice so as to help our minds to settle and stabilise. One of the distinctive qualities of this training is the kindness and compassion practices that are woven throughout. It is ideal for beginners; however, it is also for those who have previous experience of mindfulness and who want to develop their practice and for those who might go on to train to teach mindfulness.

• Working with Distraction

• Self Acceptance

• The Undercurrent and Observer

  • Please note: our courses will close for booking 48hrs prior to start date. Zoom details etc are sent out once the booking has closed to ensure our community members have everything they need in advance of their course beginning.
  • Remember we have the An Cuan Programme to support you in case you are in a situation where you cannot afford a course or workshop. With trust you can email 
  • Cancellation available 5 days prior to the event with full refund and credit will be applied for any cancellation requested 48hrs prior to the course or workshop.

  • In the event of cancellation from the side of the sanctuary due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness etc. refund or credit can be applied.

About The Facilitators

Joan Flannely

Jean Barrett

  • Joan Flannelly is the founding teacher of Heart Space, a meditation centre based in the West of Ireland.


  • Joan is a tutor on The Sanctuary’s Teacher Training programme and also teaches on The Sanctuary’s Level 2 – Responding with Compassion, the Art of Compassion and the Caring for the Caregivers programme.


  • Joan has been inspired to teach through the incredible changes she experienced in her own life through the practice of mindfulness.
  • Jean has completed the Advanced Mindfulness Based stress Reduction, Clinical Incident Stress management and Mindfulness Based Living course.

  • Jean is a Consultant Psychotherapist & Mindfulness Teacher. She has been co-facilitating the Being Present course with Jane Negrych  in the past year.

  • Jean is a valued supporter of The Sanctuary. She is a frequent facilitator of our free weekly community meditation sessions.
