Mystics, Heretics and Rebels, 8-week course with Dominic Cogan

This course is both Onsite & Online

Course Description: From the early period of Christianity right up to the present, there has always been debate about the true teachings of Jesus. For centuries, an over-reliance on black and white thinking has put some of the finest thinkers and mystics on the wrong side of the argument. Today, in more enlightened times, we have the opportunity to re-acquaint ourselves with some of these, in the light of modern developments in spirituality, science and psychology.

The cast of characters featured will range from the 4th century Pelagius, the 5th century St. Bridget and the 9th century John Scotus Eriugena all the way to contemporary mystics and rebels: Teilhard de Chardin, Matthew Fox, Cynthia Bourgeault and Ilia Delio. Along the way, the course will also make reference to Hildegard of Bingen, Martin Luther and Meister Eckhart. In addition, we will consider how the inclusion of the Gospel of Thomas, discovered in the 1940s, could bring new insights into our current understanding of the Gospel message.

Date & Time: 7.00-9.00pm, Thursdays, 22nd Sept – 17th Nov 2022

Duration: 8 weeks

Price: €200
