The Sanctuary:
A Meditation & Mindfulness Centre for Social Change

The Sanctuary is a registered charity dedicated to personal well-being, mindfulness, and contemplation. Founded in 1998 by Sr. Stan Kennedy and Síle Wall, it continues to support individuals on their life journey through meditation and reflection.

Dear friends and valued members of the Sanctuary Community,

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved founder, Sister Stanislaus Kennedy.  

Sr. Stan was the heart and guiding spirit of the Sanctuary. Her vision, compassion, and tireless commitment to those most in need shaped every part of who we are and what we do. Through her example, she showed us what it means to care deeply, act courageously, and believe in the dignity of every person. 

A visionary in every sense of the word, Sr Stan, recognised the power of bringing people of all traditions and backgrounds together to deliver change for the greater good. As a religious, her openness to work with civil society was pioneering. When others felt constrained by their beliefs, Sr Stan saw them as a call to action. A call to work with others to ensure equality and inclusion in all its forms. Influenced by her proud Kerry background, her vision for the Sanctuary was to create a space for reflection and stillness.

Over the years the Sanctuary has become a community of spirituality, meditation and creativity. Like all who worked with Sr Stan we share her deep faith in gratitude and we are extraordinarily grateful for the time we had with her, and now believe the biggest tribute we can pay is to continue her work here at the Sanctuary.

On behalf of everyone at the Sanctuary, thank you for being part of this journey she began, and for helping us carry her vision forward.

During  this period of transition, we are committed to continuing our meditations and scheduled services. The Sanctuary will close for the Funeral. Courses

Courses are usually run on weekday mornings or evenings (online or onsite) over a number of weeks. The courses are designed to deliver in-depth knowledge of the subject in a meaningful way.

Community is integral to the Sanctuary. Creating a space where everyone is welcome to join in and to enjoy different types and styles of meditation. We have weekly onsite and online meditations.

The Sanctuary has evolved organically over the years to include mindfulness programmes for schools, programmes for carers and those working in the frontline services of society. Moreover, it offers tailored programmes for commercial organisations, charities, workplaces and management teams. All our courses are inspired by a deep and heartfelt wish and mission to nourish personal growth for greater social impact, ultimately helping to create a more resilient and just society.
